STOCKHOLM, March 2026 — Embark Studios has replaced several AI-generated voice lines in Arc Raiders with recordings from professional actors following player feedback during the February 2026 playtest.
The studio confirmed the changes in a community update, noting that the affected lines primarily involved key non-player characters and tutorial sequences. The decision was made to improve emotional delivery, consistency, and overall immersion after players criticized some AI voices as sounding unnatural or lacking depth.
Arc Raiders, a PvPvE extraction shooter originally revealed in 2021, has undergone multiple redesigns. The latest playtest introduced refined gameplay loops, new maps, and enhanced AI behaviors.
While most voice work remains AI-generated for scalability—particularly for background characters with extensive dialogue trees—the studio opted for human performers in select cases where quality was deemed critical.
Embark Studios has been transparent about its use of AI tools throughout development, including for concept art, animation prototyping, and procedural generation. The studio emphasized that the majority of the game’s voice content will continue to use AI to maintain efficiency, but human recordings will be prioritized for important narrative moments.
The adjustment reflects a common industry practice where developers use AI for rapid prototyping and iteration but switch to professional talent for final assets when authenticity and emotional impact are essential. Similar decisions have been made by other studios working on large-scale games with extensive dialogue.
Arc Raiders is scheduled for release later in 2026 on PC and consoles. No additional voice re-recordings have been announced, but the studio said it will continue monitoring feedback.
