Nvidiaโ€™s latest move has surprised many, challenging assumptions about the companyโ€™s approach to product updates. When the RTX 50 GPUs were released, it was widely expected that Nvidia would reserve new features exclusively for the latest range, encouraging users to upgrade from older models to stay on the cutting edge of technology.

However, Nvidia has defied these expectations. The company previously confirmed that its DLSS advancements for the RTX 50 series would also be available to RTX 40 owners. Now, Nvidia is extending this generosity further by bringing its new Smooth Motion feature to the previous generation of cards.

Nvidia Introduces Smooth Motion for RTX 40 and 50 Series GPUs

According to a report from Dark Side of Gaming, the Nvidia app now offers a new option labeled โ€œSmooth Motion.โ€ This feature appears to be Nvidiaโ€™s counterpart to AMDโ€™s fluid motion technology.

Currently, Smooth Motion can only be enabled on RTX 50 cards. This led Dark Side of Gaming to speculate that the feature would remain exclusive to Nvidiaโ€™s newest GPUs. However, Nvidia provided an update, clarifying its plans:

โ€œNVIDIA Smooth Motion is a brand-new driver technology and requires time for validation and QA across multiple products. Support for GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs will be coming in a future update.โ€

While thereโ€™s no specific timeline for when Smooth Motion will be available on older models, its release will depend on the overall performance and validation process. In the meantime, enthusiasts can explore our comparison of the RTX 4090 and the RTX 5080, where the former continues to uphold its reputation as a top-tier gaming GPU.
