Facebook reported that it filed a lawsuit against an Indian domain registry, Compsys Domain Solutions Private Ltd. This is after the company was accused of registering domains that are more similar to its family apps like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Facebook says this action is to prevent any potential attacks and will do the same against others.

Registering Imposter Domains!
Facebook yesterday has reported that it filed a lawsuit against an Indian domain registry named Compsys Domain Solutions Private Ltd, which is accused of registering domains resembling Facebookโs suite of apps. Some examples shared by Facebook are instagramhjack.com, facebook-verify-inc.com, and videocall-whatsapp.com. Facebook claims to have reached the registry on this issue but filed the case in Virginia court after receiving no response from it.
Facebook claims to be scanning the internet regularly for scooping out such manipulative domains and will take action on them. These, as per Facebook, can result in online fraud, phishing, or credential theft if not eliminated. Further, the company also acknowledges its past quashes against Namecheap and OnlineNIC on similar issues.
