Later this year, Google is expected to launch two new phones, Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. However, the search engine giant has announced that these phones will not come with a charger in the box.

Google to Sell its Upcoming Smartphones without Charger

Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

Just a day before, on 17 August, Google announced Pixel 5a 5G smartphones similar to Pixel 4a 5G. These phones come with a charger in the box. If you remember, both Samsung and Apple have stopped providing chargers for their latest flagships. So, Google is also joining these companies by not shipping chargers with a phone.

Google said the Pixel 5a would be the last Pixel phone to have a charger in the box. Both Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be coming later this year with premium hardware and software.

Most people buying a phone in this price range already have a USB-C charging brick to use it. Another benefit of not providing chargers is, the company reduces the price as they don’t need to manufacture the charger for each phone. Also, the distribution costs are deducted as the size and weight of the box are reduced.

However, it is still unclear whether the consumers will benefit from these savings for buying Pixel 6 or 6 Pro.

The Google Pixel 6 is expected to have faster wireless charging due to an upgraded Pixel Stand accessory. Previous Pixel phones have 18W wired charging speeds via supported USB-C power adapters.

Apple was the first to ship products without a charger in the box with the iPhone 12 series. Next, was Samsung who excluded the in-box charger with the latest foldable and other OEMs like HMD Global. Now, Google will be added to the list after the release of Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

OnePlus and Xiaomi still include chargers with their phones, but we don’t know how long they follow this suit.
