As a social media platform catering to an active community of video creators, TikTok is responsible for keeping user activity in check. TikTok monitors users’ accounts and activities. If the social media platform finds anything suspicious that goes against the community guidelines, the account involved can be banned.

There are different types of bans that TikTok may impose on an account, including permanent, temporary, and shadow bans. Depending on the ban, it can sometimes be difficult for the user to have it removed. There’s nothing to worry about, this article will guide you with the reasons why your TikTok account can get suspended and how to recover from it.

Different Types of TikTok Account Ban/Suspension

In general, there are three types of bans-

  • Shadow Ban- This ban will restrict your profile. You will be able to use TikTok normally and post on it, but the content you post will not be visible on other accounts. Shadow bans on TikTok last up to two weeks.
  • Temporary Ban- If your account is temporarily banned, you can view and engage with content on the platform but cannot post content. A temporary ban lasts one day but can last up to a week.
  • Permanent Ban– With the permanent ban, you won’t be able to use your account. If a permanent ban is imposed on your account then you are on the thin ice of getting it back again.

Why Can TikTok Suspend Account?

TikTok suspends the account if it violates the community guidelines and the policy set by them. If you face a temporary, permanent, or shadow ban on your TikTok account, then it can be due to the following reasons-

  1. Buying fake followers and likes.
  2. Posting videos of other creators without their permission.
  3. Posting adult videos and content can also result in a ban.
  4. Videos related to criminal offenses against some political parties, groups, and religions are also against the community guidelines.
  5. Posting videos related to self-destruction, suicide, promoting alcohol, drugs, etc.
  6. Commenting hateful words on someone’s video.
  7. Use of copyrighted content without permission.

How to Recover from TikTok Account Suspension?

If your account is banned temporarily or shadow-banned, you can appeal on the platform. Permanent bans are harder to recover from, and you will have to mail TikTok support for that.

1. Recover from Temporary Account Ban

If your account has a temporary ban, then you will still be able to use the TikTok app, so you can make your appeal directly from the app itself. Temporary bans last a few days and will lift on their own, but if you want to end the ban now, then you can follow the steps given below-

  1. Head over to the TikTok app.
  2. Tap on the Profile icon at the bottom right corner.
  3. Tap the menu icon and then select Settings and Privacy.
  4. Under the Support & About section, tap on Report a Problem.Report a Problem
  5. Next, tap on Submit a Report.
  6. Now, mention the ban, why it was imposed, and that you want it to be removed. If possible, attach photos and videos supporting your action.
  7. Once done, tap on the Submit button.

It might take some time for the customer support team to see your appeal and respond to it; wait until then.

2. Recover from Permanent Account Ban

If your TikTok account has been permanently banned, you won’t be able to sign in to the platform. In that case, you will have to contact the TikTok customer support team through their email or Twitter handle.

When you write to TikTok support, mention every detail about the suspension. Include details like why your account was suspended and why you think it was a mistake. Assure the support team that the same mistake won’t happen again and that you will follow the community guidelines the next time.

Permanent bans are hard to recover from. Though you can try mailing customer support to unban your account, the chances of this happening are very low. If the ban is not removed even after contacting customer support, then your account is forever lost, and you will have to create a new account.

Tips to Avoid TikTok Account Ban

It’s best to avoid getting your account banned on TikTok. There are a few things that you can keep in mind while using TikTok to prevent your account from getting suspended-

  1. Follow the community guidelines. Don’t post or comment on anything that does not adhere to them (e.g., hate speech, sexuality, racism, etc.).
  2. Take care of the copyright infringement. Post stuff that’s original or with the permission of the owner.
  3. Do not promote scam products in comments and posts.
  4. Ensure you do not buy fake followers and likes for engagement on the platform.
  5. Many people are involved in bulk follow and unfollow activity to get followers. Avoid doing that to protect your account from suspension.
  6. Do not integrate untrusted third-party apps with your TikTok account.
  7. Be respectful to other members on TikTok.
  8. Do not publish multiple videos at once on the platform.
