Data privacy is a major concern for all smartphone users now. When we talk about Whatsapp first thing that comes to mind is, Whatsapp provides end-to-end encryption. But what about our chat backups, are those chats secure?

Recently Whatsapp has faced a lot of criticism on privacy. So now they are bringing some new features to Whatsapp. Now Whatsapp is testing Encrypted backups for Android devices. Soon this will be available for Beta Testers too.

Encrypted Cloud Backups on Android

WhatsApp Will Restrict Functions to Those Who Don't Accept its Terms

According to WABetaInfo, the new Whatsapp update will have Encrypted Cloud backups. This will keep all users data like chat history and media securely backed up. As per the reports, if a user forgets their passcode or loses the recovery code, then they’ll be blocked permanently as Whatsapp also can’t get in.

Whatsapp messages are end-to-end encrypted, which means those who try to see the private chats can’t easily get in. At present, if a user keeps a backup stored in the cloud, then authorities can use a search warrant to have iCloud or Google Drive to provide the data access.

Whatsapp is also working on software that works across multiple devices, maintaining end-to-end encryption while you have a phone or not.
