With the launch of Android 14 Developer Preview 1, Google is taking better advantage of the dual-SIM functionality every Android phone has.
As noted by researchers, Android 14 on supported phones will automatically switch networks between the two SIMs to get a better data rate. The same would happen in the case of calls too, where the system will detect and switch to a network thatโs offering a better connection.
Android 14 Dual-SIM Functionality
One of the best perks of having an Android phone is the Dual-SIM functionality, which gives users the great convenience to switch networks manually whenever they donโt have a signal from one carrier. Well, this is about to get just better with the Android 14 update, where the system can automatically detect and switch between networks for better connectivity!
This comes from 9to5Google, who spotted a new toggle in the Settings of Android 14 Developer Preview 1, which states โSwitch mobile data automaticallyโ โ and does what exactly it states. This is extremely helpful at points where thereโs bad connectivity for one of your networks, and it has connected to another one automatically.
Well, weโre yet to know how exactly the system determines a network as bad โ and the consequences of automatic switching between networks. This is crucial as in many regions like India, force switching on the data of a network (carrier) in which you donโt have a relevant data pack โ may eat up your talk time balance!
Though that was an old practice, and most maintain some form of data pack today, itโs still essential to know how exactly this works. Also, the featureโs description notes this automatic switching of networks applies for calls too, whenever youโre facing trouble in connectivity.
If youโre interested to experience this already, you better have any of the following Pixel phones โ Pixel 7 & 7 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 & 6 Pro, Pixel 5a 5G, Pixel 5, and Pixel 4a (5G) โ and be ready to install the latest Android 14 Developer Preview 1 update.
