Like many of us, if you find light text on a dark background easier on the eyes, you’ll want to use your operating system’s dark mode. Luckily, enabling dark mode in Windows 11 is a breeze, and it influences the look and feel of both your apps and the system taskbar.

This color scheme mode may be enabled by default on some upcoming prebuilt PCs. Like Windows 10, Windows 11’s menus, settings, and other primary interface elements come in two colors: Dark and Light.

It’s simple to switch from one to the other, but it’s not immediately obvious how to do so. But you can’t count on it, so use the instructions below to enable dark mode in Windows 11.

Step to Enable Dark Mode on Windows 11 PC

In Windows 11, the Light mode is turned on by default. However, if you work in a bright environment and want to use your laptop/PC in a dark environment, turning on the dark mode will be in your best interest. Follow these simple steps to accomplish the same:

  1. Right-click on the desktop, and from the drop-down menu, click on Personalize.
  2. In the Personalization window, click on Colors.
  3. Now you will see an option Choose Your Mode. Expand that, and you will see Choose your default Windows mode and Choose your default app mode.
  4. If you want your taskbar and other options in dark mode, you can simply Light to Dark in Choose your default Windows mode.
  5. Either way, you can toggle Light to Dark if you want to enable dark mode for apps.
  6. You can choose any option that suits your preference. However, if you want a complete dark mode experience, toggling both the options to Dark is your best bet.

  1. First, follow steps 1-3 to get into the mode selection option.
  2. From there, toggle both default Windows mode and Choose your default app mode to Light.

That’s it. Now you have successfully disabled dark mode.

Windows 11 also offers a System-Wide mode selection option. In the personalization window, don’t expand Choose Your Mode option. And you will see the System-Wide toggle for enabling or disabling dark mode.

The Bottom Line

Over time, a significant portion of the population has switched to Dark Mode on their devices. Some say it’s more aesthetically pleasing, while others say it’s more comfortable on the eyes.

The dark mode was first seen on Windows 10. However, that’s wasn’t a complete dark mode because the start menu didn’t look that great. In Windows 11, things have changed a lot. Hope you successfully enable dark mode in your windows 11 computer.
