India’s largest telecom operator – Jio is gearing up to launch its first 5G handset sometime this year. While there’s no official confirmation from the company yet, Android Central has detailed several specifications of it.
According to it, this upcoming handset could be named as JioPhone 5G, and come with a 6.5″ HD+ display, SD 480 SoC, punch-hole design, and Android 11 Go Edition. With multiple storage variants expected, JioPhone 5G can be the prime driver of 5G adoption in India soon.
India’s First Native 5G Phone
Entering the saturated telecom market in 2016, Jio doesn’t need an introduction in India. The telecom company run by India’s now second-richest man is gearing up for a new smartphone, which can come with 5G support and become the country’s first local branded to do so.
While the company is yet to make any announcements or confirmations, the Android Central team has dug up to the surface a few technical specifications of this handset – named as JioPhone 5G. As per them, this phone may come with Snapdragon 480 chip, a fine upgrade over the Snapdragon 215 from its predecessor JioPhone Next.
Further, it shall sport a 6.5″ HD+ (1600 x 720) display with a punch-hole design for stuffing the front camera and rounded edges. With thin bezels for modern looks, the purported JioPhone 5G may come in different storage varients starting with 4GB/32GB options.
With a microSD card slot for further expansion, this handset will support several 5G bands like the N3, N5, N28, N40, and N78. In terms of camera, it shall sport a 13MP primary camera and an 8MP selfie shooter, with a 5000mAh battery coming with 18W fast charging support.
Finally, on the software front, JioPhone 5G comes with Android 11 Go edition out of the box, always-on Google Assistant, text-to-speech support, Google Translate, and instant translation via Google Lens support, alongside the Jio suite of apps.
