Qualcomm’s new chips – 720G, 662 and 460 launched Tuesday embarks the maker’s entrance into upper-mid and budget segment smartphones now. These new chips are said to be enhancing the gaming experience, AI, new GPS embedment and better task management than their successors. While the 720G and 662 are speculated to serve upper-mid phones, the 470 chip will serve budget ones with high-end features.

Improved Features

The Snapdragon 460 is said to be bringing flagship features at very low cost. This chip shall have improved AI and enhanced gaming capabilities. This will be the high performing chip of Snapdragon 400 series and features Indian GPS version, NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation).

GPS is an important feature of every device. Thus, every nation crafting its own version of GPS as Russia’s GLONASS, Europe’s Galileo and China’s BeiDou. Aside from this, the new SD 460 will be 70% more powerful than previous 450 chipsets. The most satisfying announcement of this chip is about its GPU. This chip shall feature Adreno 610 GPU, which is previously paired with Snapdragon 665 chip.

This chipset is set to serve budgetary and lower-mid rangers. Phones in this segment may be Huawei Y series, Moto G6, Realme C1, Redmi 8 and 8A. And new phones may feature this chip from later this year.

Other Announcements

Other than chipsets, Qualcomm also hinted about 5G and Snapdragon-powered laptops in the near future. The maker is currently having three chips supporting 5G, which includes its premium 865 SoC launched last month. As per reports, only 55% of India is still on 4G and there’s plenty of room for development. Qualcomm also hinted about launching many 5G phones in next 30days, citing MWC event in February soon.
