Following the suite of other social media and messenger apps, Snapchat today confirmed that itโs working on a premium subscription to its platform.
Named the Snapchat Plus, the official pricing of this isnโt revealed yet. Yet, the Snapchat spokesperson said that premium users will have access to early and experimental features, plus some special abilities like pinning chats to the top and changing Snapchat icons.
Snapchat Premium Subscription
Last week, we saw Telegramโs CEO unveiled plans for a premium version of their platform coming later this month. Following it, Snapchat today confirmed itโs working on an early premium version called Snapchat Plus (Snapchat+).
This was confirmed by a Snapchat spokesperson Liz Markman to The Verge;
โWeโre doing early internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for Snapchatters. Weโre excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community.โ
Aside from rolling out the early features, Snapchat Plus may also have the ability to let users pin chats to the top, change the Snapchat icon on their device and even check who has re-watched your stories. All these were revealed by Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer who earlier shared similar leaks of other platforms.

Though the official pricing of this premium subscription isnโt revealed yet, Paluzziโs screenshots say the plans cost โฌ4.59 a month and โฌ45.99 a year (around $4.84 and 48.50, respectively). Snapchat venturing into a paid tier is expected, as the platform earlier revealed that itโs one of the many companies that took a hit by Appleโs recent ad tracking policies.
Starting with iOS 14.5, Apple introduced App Tracking Transparency to let users turn off ad tracking on an app-by-app basis, which blocked a major source of revenue for services like Snapchat.
