WhatsApp is dumping support for a bunch of phones by this month’s end, as per its routine of phasing out old phones.

Some of the notables in this include iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, HTC Desire 500, Lenovo A820, LG Optimus, and the Samsung Galaxy S3. Users are advised to upgrade their software to the latest OS available or try shifting to new phones if wanted to run the WhatsApp app.

Non-Compatible Phones for WhatsApp

Being the world’s most popular instant messenger, WhatsApp has the duty of keeping its users secure on its platform. In this pursuit, the platform is now dropping support for a bunch of smartphones from various brands to keep those users secured. Well, though it’s like forcing them to upgrade their hardware, it’s needed.

On December 31st, 2022, the WhatsApp app will not work on iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, HTC Desire 500, Lenovo A820, LG Optimus, Samsung Galaxy S3, and other phones. WhatsApp noted that there are only a few people still using the app on these old devices and;

“These devices also might not have the latest security updates or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.”

This isn’t surprising, as WhatsApp in October stated to end support for phones running iOS 10 and iOS 11. And iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C have been running the same since Apple stopped supplying updates to these devices a long ago.

Well, iPhone 5S users may still have hope if they wish to upgrade their devices manually. But it’s recommended to switch to a modern device, as iPhone 5S and even iPhone 5C run on the old A6 chip – which could vulnerable to many bugs.

Before doing so, we recommend exporting all your chat history to any other device or to a cloud before switching devices.
