Venturing into the path of Google and Microsoft, Meta today announced a revamped focus on Generative AI – by creating a new experience for its users.

The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said they’d be building creative and expressive tools in the near future, while a new space called AI Personas in the long term. While he details what this is all about, we may soon see new chat experiences in WhatsApp and Messenger, creative filters in Instagram, etc.

Meta’s Future Plans for Generative AI

Triggered by the growth of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta is now exploring its options in the generative AI field with new plans. The company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced merging all the AI teams working on various heads across the company – into one team for working on new Generative AI tools.

He noted making creative and expressive tools for Meta products in the near future and AI Personas in the long term. This is a concept of using millions of data points regarding user-powered by AI – and defining their digital profile. This could be unique to everyone in most cases but also be used for targeted advertising in some common points.

Details on how Meta develops its AI Personas are yet to be known, but the company said they’re “exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences” now.

Cautioning that there’s a “lot of foundational work to do” for bringing these projects to life, Zuckerberg earlier stated he wants Meta to be a “leader” in the generative AI space. Well, this comes with a lot of hurdles, as the company is already losing billions of dollars in metaverse pivoting. Now adding Generative AI to its bag may only increase the burden, even though it has a lot of scope in the near future.
