Meta is reportedly working on a new social media app similar to Twitter – that’s decentralized and allows users to share timely updates in text format.

Hopefully, this new app will target the current Twitter users who are in a confused state after Musk’s acquisition, as the platform is facing a lot of chaos. Though Meta confirmed it’s working on a new platform, there’s no timeline on when we can see this yet.

Meta’s Plans for Tackling Twitter

Twitter has long been a social media for celebrities, government officials, and brands to community their activity updates in a quick and short format. This technique seemed to be effective, as the platform garnered over 400 million users worldwide – until Elon Musk took over!

His rough acquisition last year led to several chaotic events – impersonation, advertiser dilemma, reinstating controversial accounts, etc. – leading some people to leave the platform in a dilemma.

And now, Meta wants to cash on this opportunity by tunneling these confused users and brands to a new social media platform – which it revealed to be working on. As confirmed to Reuters, a Meta spokesperson said;

“We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”

This idealogy seems mostly like Twitter – which functions on the same principles. Well, Meta putting a decentralized word in between means the result could be something like Mastadon – a similar platform launched in 2016, now gaining more traction after Musk’s takeover of Twitter.

Meta’s plans of building a Twitter-like app come at a time of chaos at the actual Twitter – which is seeing a lot of disturbances after Elon Musk’s takeover. The new CEO introduced a paid verification system that messed up the platform’s trust – as scammers impersonated popular brands and accounts, leading to several issues.
